Isle of Palms Town Council Passes a Citywide Smoking Ban
By admin | September 24, 2008
Following suit with Dowtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant and Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms is one of the latest municipalities in the Lowcountry to pass a citywide smoking ban. Although many restaurants and other public places have already banned smoking in their respective establishments, there were still four businesses that had not.
Although the Isle of Palms Town Council had first proposed a citizen referendum on the issue, they decided to go ahead and vote without holding the referendum. The ban officially goes into effect on January 1st, 2009 and does not include decks, porches and beaches. The law passed on September 23rd, 2008 with a vote of 7 to 2.
